A large warm and soft hand knitted woolen shawl or wrap knitted with a beautiful garter stitch to showcase the yarn, which is Paton's Gypsy Tweed. This shawl is knitted by me.
The shawl pattern is the Hitchhiker Shawl by Martina Behm of Strickmich.
I love the asymmetrical shawl with two straight sides and one pointy side. When you view the photos you will know what I mean. Otherwise, do a search on the Hitchhiker Shawl and you will find more examples of shawls knitted in this pattern.
The yarn used for this particular shawl is a relatively bulky yarn which means that the shawl is relatively large, not a shawlette, and relatively warm and wonderful. Good to snuggle up with in a chair with a book or watching TV, good to wrap around yourself when walking in a windy cold environment, you can wrap it all the way around your face, head, ears, neck, shoulders. Or you can use it at the office if you switch from being cold to overheating throughout the day - it is easy to take on and off.
Approximately 450 grams of yarn went into knitting this shawl - it is not light weight; yet it is warm and soft.
The yarn is beautiful with varying thicknesses, with several threads wrapped around each other. The overall color is beige or tan but it does actually have many hues of beige, tan, brown, white highlighted by small color spots (the tweed effect). This is a yarn made in Australia - it is of wonderful quality, has a nice shine to it, feels soft and non-scratchy, is very strong and durable.
